Double Scragg Saw

The scragg contains two sets of double saws. The first saw set create a two sided cant that is then sent through a second saw set to produce a square or rectangular timber. These timbers can then be directed to a resaw line for further breakdown.

Logs of various species can be run on this system. It takes a minimum 6” top and max 16” butt log. All logs are run through an 18” ring de-barker prior to the mill.

The canter produces 4x4, 4x6, 6x6, 6x8 and 6x10 industrial timbers in 8 to 14ft lengths. 1” boards in 4, 6 and 8 inch widths are generated from the sidecut slabs. These boards are excellent for fencing, pallet stock and roof strapping.

By-products from the milling processes go into wood chips and hog.

The small log canter has a monthly production of 950,000 fbm and consumes 3500m3 of logs per month.

Large Log Band mill

Woodco operates two select 6” double cut band mills. These band mills are configured to cut larger timber from 13” top to maximum 38” butt in 14 to 24ft lengths.

The band mills can produce a variety of timber sizes from 8x8 to 20x20. Side lumber in 2 and 3 inch dimensions are run through our board edger to generate various widths and grades.

All logs are debarked on a Rosser Head style de-barker and first cut slabs and edger waste are run through a slab chipper to manufacture pulp wood chips and hog material.

The band mill’s have a monthly capacity of 400,000 fbm and consume 1600 m3 of logs per month.
